New AV Overhaul Brings Clearer Sound and Smarter Controls to Mt. Juliet Police Department
Mt. Juliet Police Department | Mt. Juliet, Tenn.
S&L Integrated partnered with the Mount Juliet Police Department (Mt. Juliet, TN) to design and install a new, future‑ready audio‑visual and digital‑signage system for the department’s newly constructed facility. The project spans reception, briefing rooms, classrooms, dispatch, the courtroom/community space, and shared work areas across multiple floors, creating a unified AV platform built from the ground up. S&L delivered an integrated system of displays, speakers, wireless microphones, assistive listening, AV‑over‑IP routing, and easy‑to‑use touch‑panel controls that supports the department’s current operations while providing a scalable foundation for growth, new room configurations, and expanded technology needs over time.
The Challenge
As a new facility, the Mt. Juliet Police Department needed a modern audio‑visual and digital‑signage system built from the ground up, rather than upgraded piece by piece. The building had to support training, community events, courtroom‑style proceedings, dispatch operations, and daily staff communication, all on a single, flexible AV platform.
Key requirements included:
-
Inconsistent coverage and clarity across the entire building and large rooms
-
Technology that could support current events and complex workflows
-
Limited or outdated video displays for content, wayfinding, and public information
-
Controls that were simple for staff and volunteer operators to use
-
Infrastructure that could grow and adapt as the department’s needs evolved over time

The Solution
Modern AV‑over‑IP backbone for the whole building
Deployed an AV‑over‑IP infrastructure that lets video and audio move over the network throughout the building, so any source—like a computer, judge’s bench, or lectern—can be easily routed to any display or listening zone without rewiring.
Courtroom and community space upgrades
Added a large 98‑inch wall‑mounted display at the front, plus a 75‑inch display on a movable cart and five monitors for the bench and lectern, so judges, staff, and the public can all see the same information clearly. The space also got 16 ceiling speakers and better microphones so everyone can hear rulings, testimony, and announcements easily and clearly.
Assistive listening for better access
Included an assistive listening system with transmitters and receivers so people who are hard of hearing can use headsets or neck loops to hear the courtroom audio more clearly, helping the department meet accessibility needs.
Simple controls for courtroom and staff areas
Placed wall‑mounted and tabletop touch‑screen controllers in the courtroom and clerk areas so authorized staff can turn displays on or off, adjust volume, and switch between video sources with just a few taps instead of managing multiple devices.
Crestron NVX boxes for reliable video routing
Added Crestron NVX encoders and decoders at key locations, including the courtroom, lectern, bench, confidence cart, and main displays, so video can be sent long distances over the network with high quality and simple coordination between rooms.
Digital signage and wayfinding coverage
Added dozens of wall‑mounted displays in the lobby, staff break areas, dispatch, vehicle annex, and common areas so the department can show schedules, announcements, safety messages, and wayfinding directions to visitors and employees.
Long‑run cable and no‑hassle AV drops
Used HDBaseT HDMI wallplate extenders and structured cabling from desks, floor boxes, and workbenches to displays so video and audio can travel long distances without extra visible wires or messy gear on the wall. This keeps the building looking clean and makes it easier to move or swap equipment later.
Mounting, rack, and lectern adjustments
Raised and repositioned key pieces of equipment—like the main AV rack and several wall displays—so they are at the correct heights and easier to access, while also updating lecterns and mounts to match the final layout and improve sightlines for presenters and the audience.
The Solution
S&L Integrated delivered a turnkey AV upgrade that combines new displays, speakers, wireless microphones, assistive‑listening equipment, and easy‑to‑use touch‑panel controls across the building. The system is designed to make daily operations, training, and community events easier to run, while also giving the department room to grow and add new capabilities later.
The design supports current courtroom-like proceedings, community meetings, briefing, classroom, dispatch, and Emergency Communication Center (ECC) workflows, and it preserves the look and feel of the building so AV equipment blends into the environment rather than dominating it.
The Result
The upgrade gives Mt. Juliet PD clearer sound, better visuals, and simpler operation across briefing rooms, court/community, classrooms, dispatch, and common areas, which improves both internal training and public‑facing events. Staff and volunteers can now start events, run presentations, and switch between video sources with simple presets instead of juggling multiple devices, saving time and reducing confusion during high‑pressure situations.
The new AV infrastructure also supports current video‑conferencing, streaming, and assistive‑listening needs, while leaving the department ready to add future capabilities like expanded ECC conferencing, remote collaboration, or additional training rooms without having to rip out and replace the core system.
